Angelina Jolie revealed today in a beautifully-written op-ed for the New York Times that she recently underwent surgery to have both her breasts removed.  After finding out that she had a gene that predisposes her to ovarian and breast cancer, she made the informed decision to remove her breasts to minimise the risk of developing breast cancer…

Bvlgari Jasmin Noir actually came out way back in 2008, but who can keep track of all the fragrances on the market – right?! I received a sample of the eau de parfum in my Rubybox this month and was pleasantly surprised by the fragrance so I thought I’d tell you about it…

I know the Met Gala is all about the dress – an opportunity to be fashion forward… blah blah… but I believe that a good make-up look and hairstyle can really pull your outfit together. This year’s theme at the Met Gala was Punk: Chaos to Couture – a great opportunity to play with style, make-up and hair and even bigger opportunity to look like an idiot – which is why I decided to bring you my picks of the best and worst hair & make-up at the Met Gala 2013…

That chill is in the air, the trees look bare and depressing and the slew of public holidays is over, so I thought I’d cheer you up with some tips and product recommendations for the Autumn Winter 2013 makeup trends.  (I’ve included some links to sites where you can see and/or buy some of the products I’ve mentioned.) So, have a look and get excited about you can spend your hard-earned cash on next…

Maybelline Color Sensational The Shine Review
I recently received a sample of Maybelline Color Sensational The Shine, the newest additions to their Color Sensational range of lipsticks.  The Shine claims to have mirror-like colour with a creamy feel, enriched with honey nectar.  I’ve had it in my bag for a while and have been using it from time to time so that I could share my thoughts.
The shade I tried is ‘Mauve Diamonds’. It has a mild fruity smell and it applies smoothly and easily and feels moisturising.  It isn’t heavily pigmented, and has a very shiny, sheer look, almost gloss-like but its lipstick.  Because of the sheer and lightweight formula, it wears off after an hour or two or as soon as you eat or drink something.

Here is a swatch of ‘Mauve Diamonds’ on my inner arm.

I like the way it shines like gloss but feels like lipstick.  The shininess comes from loads of tiny, mirror pigments that reflect the light but don’t look glittery on your lips.  Keep an eye on your chin though – after I ate I noticed I had reflective particles on my chin that were quite difficult to remove without messing up my foundation.
The packaging is pretty, with a transparent, pink, holographic lid covering a metallic tube.

Le packaging.

At around R110.00, Color Sensational The Shine lipstick is a wallet-friendly alternative to higher-end lipsticks like Chanel Rouge Coco Shine and Dior Addict High Shine Lip Color.
